I think the worst offenders are the ones that have gone one step up the ladder and think that makes them superior. It's like the class system, the ones at the top don't give a toss for those below them, most of those at the bottom know their place and don't give a toss about those above them, it's the ones in the middle who are the social climbers who feel they have something to prove that are a pain in the rear (bumper?)

I agree with that wholeheartedly, like Ford and Vauxhall drivers you mean? They think they are a class above everyone else and think they have gone a step up the ladder. Especially when they moved from a single bedroom council flat to a three bedroomed council house and put their old Ford Escort/Vauxhall Vectra runabout as a finance deposit for a brand new or three yearold Ford Focus/Vauxhall Insignia on 'Yes car credit'. They own a three yearold Ford/Vauxhall and they act like they won the national lottery…

I'm not really interested in generalisations because you can't drive and react to situations based on them.

In my opinion (based on many, many road miles, and in my job) the ability to purchase an expensive car has absolutely no relationship to the ability to drive it well.

I have much more to contribute on this subject, but this Forum looks pretty quiet, so I'll see if anyone replies before I bother :)

Although I drive a 1.25 Fiesta myself I do notice that people who drive say an old banger Polo or a college runaround Escort or a clapped out Fiesta like mine do actually drive a lot worse and scarier then people who drive a lot of fast cars. I think its because people who drive quick cars know they have the power to waste and it screws up their fuel consumption a lot more proving that point whereas people in slower cars like mine can still break all the speed limits as much as they want and overtake other people like its going out of fashion and still run it on a budget of £20 a week. A lot of my fellow Uni mates are like it they drive an old underpowered say 1.4 because thats all they can afford but they drive them mentally and rag them as fast as they can or add K&N filters to them and they think they are untouchable. Its quite scary that they can drive something that can be so dangerous because even though they say the rear drum brake model cars are quite slow to 60 in comparison to say yours or a scooby you can still break the limits on a normal road and do over 100 in it. Obviously they wouldn't have the same 'back in your seat' oomph power but the 0-60 times on most 16 valve cars you can buy and insure for a coupld of quid are still adequate enough to reach todays speeds without a huge amount of fuss.

They all say "Its the idiot in the big powerful saloon" "Its the twit driving the two door sports coupe" "Its the arrogant fool driving the hot hatch" but I find on a daily personal observation that the poorest drivers of all are the ones who drive an everyday 1.2 Corsa twinport or a 1.6 Volkswagen Golf (An unnoticable average traffic car with rear drum brakes that does traffic speed) and they also seem to carry round an unhealthy speed ego with it. Its like they dream that they are driving a Ferrari or a formula 1 car of some sort and have their foot constantly welded to the floor always sat in the right hand lanes wherever possible trying to race whatevers next to them speeding around cutting people up and undertaking.

Whenever I am out in the car (I have a relatively quick car which is an FR… not fast, but it happily destroys most 1.8 and 2.0 litre cars) I notice that its only ever the fools driving the ordinary slow cars i.e 1.2/1.4 which pull up alongside me when there is nothing else around and seem overly keen on giving me a grand prix as soon as the lights go from red to amber and its got to that point where I don't bother sending them backwards anymore because A: its a waste of diesel B: It eventually destroys the tread on my front tyres over time. No one else seems to do that and its always a slower car which tries to undertake me in a lane or sits right up my backside following a fag paper off my rear bumper.

What is it? Is it jealousy? Curiosity? Envy? Inflated ego? Impatience?

What do you think? And like me does anyone else notice it?
