Hi there Paulascot85,

I wouldn't lose sleep over it and worry yourself to death, I highly doubt anything will come of it. The Police would have to hear the same story from another independant witness (Not him) to act on his complaint. Section 5 public order offences for swearing, threatening and abusive gestures/foul language have to be witnessed by and delt with via an on-duty officer at the time. Its no good an MOP walking into a Police station saying "This guy with such and such registration swore at me… DO SOMETHING" they won't take his word and only his word for it and they probably won't have the time nor the resources to be dealing with a complaint as petty as his. They are likely to ask him "What did you do to cause the aggro". In any case if the Police were interested in his side of the story which is unlikely then you can hit back that he was driving without due care and attention (The lane swerving which would make a nice CD** offence, the inappropriate use of the horn, and the interior light on while moving which is also illegal) and it is likely his driving would have been caught on the motorway 24/Hr CCTV romanse cameras which is worse than a middle finger being exchanged.

Cast that aside, I don't know who some of these people think they are. They obviously don't realise that a complaint can backfire they all seem to think that the law will automatically be on their side no matter what they do. The law works on a two sided story otherwise we wouldn't call it a justice system would we?

Hi guys,

Question…while driving during rush hour last night I was the victim of some pretty scary and agressive driving…it resulted in my giving the guy the finger. He then appeared to take down my registration!

I was driving along the motorway and both lanes were moving fairly slow (around 40mph), a car came barelling down a slip road and swerved in front of me (I was unable to pull into the other lane due to constant traffic) I slowed slightly using my brake to allow him to pull in front. The change in speed was from about 40pmh – 30 – 35mph, not a big change – but another car trying to merge from the slip road pulled in behind me and started honking his horn repeatedly and flashing his lights (it was dark so it was kind of blinding). I flashed my hazards to say sorry if he had to slow down and to let him know there was a reason for me slowing. He then pulled into the fast lane and passed at almost the same speed as me…as he passed he was glaring into the car and shouting and swearing at me so I mouthed "what?!" and looked a bit annoyed/confused.

The result was this; he dropped back in the car (still in the fast lane) and then drew completely level with my car and drew in way to close almost in my lane, he had rolled his window down and put on his interior light so I could see him and was screaming at me. In hindsight I should have ignored him completely but I snapped a bit and gave him the fingers. He then appeared to drop back again and take a note of my registration – which has me worried, should I be?
