Kia Shuma, Blue driven by Female
Seen at 10:45 am on 28-Jan-2001 on Grange Road Netley Hampshire
I was behind a woman in a Daewoo Nubira slowing down to turn right into the household waste centre. On the approach she let a Kia Shuma out. As the Nubira turned out of my way I put the pedal to the metal to regain speed and keep to the national speed limit as a black London taxi was coming up behind me quite quickly. As I did the bloody Kia infront was only pottering along at 30 without a care in the world. I had to hit the brakes hard to decelerate from 60 to 30. It was only doing half the speed limit posted for the road and it was p*ssing off myself and the guy in the London taxi behind. She was driving far too slowly for the road and there was no way either myself or the cabbie could overtake. Even tractors do 35-40 in a national speed limit but they have an excuse to be slow but what excuses car drivers? Ok fair enough do 40 or 45 if you are nervous but 30!? I really cannot stand drivers that do this it drives me potty. They have an empty car, no caravan or trailer, they aren't driving a coach, they aren't driving an HGV and they sit there doing 30 on a perfectly good road that is posted for 60 in a five speed car that is built to cope with traffic speed. People like this should not be on the road if their speed and judgement is this impaired. If you cannot drive your car at the speed limit or near the speed limit then you should seriously think about surrendering your entitlement to drive.

Quite agree, if you can’t handle driving at high speeds then don’t go on roads with high speed limits, it’s not rocket science!

…Or surrender your liecence! At times she wasn’t even doing 30. She was slowing down to 20-25 when the road got patchy from previous road works. The thing that got me was that she had plenty of time to accelerate to at least a reasonable speed of maybe 35-40 when the Nubira let her out and when the Nubira turned out of my way I didn’t exactly go full beans on the throttle because the road was wet and greasy with leaves and all I would have got was wheelspin. I just whisked the car quite briskly and comfortably back to a speed which was near the national speed limit. People like this are probably telling themselves “The speed limit is only a threshold, therefore I can do whatever speed I choose right up to whatever the sign says I can do” when in actual fact when I passed my test around five years ago I had a couple of minors from the examiner for doing slightly below 40 in a 40 zone. According to the highway code its not making progress and the Police can pull you over for this and have a few words. It could potentially be quite dangerous because if some old grandad/gran is doing 25-30 on a 60mph road someone could rear-end them especially if they have just overtaken another car and they are still above 60.
