Get out of your Focus/Astra 1.6 and try the TDI 1.9 150… You might get a shock….

Thanks for the advice Y333EEE but no thanks. I used to work for Enterprise rent a car driving the E350CGI Mercedes Saloons around which did 0-60 in 6.5/6.6 seconds on an automatic gearbox (Same 0-60 performance and top speed as an ST) and they were all fully stocked and loaded and they weren’t some cheap s**t built in Dagenham draped in spoilers and tesco stripes. Seeing as I’ve driven rental cars that have a much better way of transporting you from 0-60 like any other Type R hot hatch I think I’ll ditch the idea of an ST thanks. ST’s are for people without brains, you really don’t know what a car is until you’ve driven an E350CGI… One day, like me you might get the opportunity to drive a real car. Oh… havn’t you heard of a Seat Leon Cupra R 225? Same performance as an ST only its a 1.8 litre 20V Turbo engine and not some bulbous 2.5 litre Volvo T5 engine running at a poxy 222Bhp…

Drive one kid, Its called German engineering. So you would take an ST over anything else just because of the way it sounds? You clearly havn’t heard of a Fiat Coupe 2.0 20VT thats been out for 16 years. You havn’t heard of an Ausi S4 2.2 Turbo thats been out for over 16 years. And have you not heard of the Volvo T5-R’s that have been out for almost 20 years? The Seat Leon Mk1 Cupra R 225 1.8 20V wasn’t in the same league as the 2.5 Focus ST its a much older generation of car. The Leon Mk1 was in the same league as the Focus Mk1 because the body for the Leon dates back to 1998 – same as the Focus Mk1 and they chopped the back off of a Toledo in 2001 to make the Leon. The Mk1 Leon finished production in 2005 when the Focus ST just came out so its old against new. Its exactly the same as comparing a 2005+ Leon MkII against an old 1998-2004 Focus MkI and wondering why the Focus is smaller. The Leon Mk1 was pretty much an old 1998 design of car thats why its smaller than a Focus MkII. The Leon that was comparitive to the Focus ST was the Leon Cupra II 2.0 TSI. The old Cupra R 225 was in direct competition with the Focus RS MkI and the Cupra R 225 was uprated from 210-225 BEFORE the Focus ST was released… So there is your answer kid.

My 1.9 TDI FR isn’t my favourite Leon at all. My favourite Leon is the 225 Cupra R but because the government are utter t*ats they decide to whack the tax up to £240 a year on the 1.8 20VT which it makes it virtually impossible to afford to own one unless you are middle class or a millionaire! I cannot stand why they are forcing us all to own little crappy 1.2 and 1.4 litre cars, some of us don’t want a crappy little underpowered car some of us want power. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for turbo petrols but if they didn’t smash the tax up to DOUBLE of what my road tax is on top of 29/30 miles to the gallon I wouldn’t look twice at a TDI 1.9. The only reason why I have a 1.9 TDI is because realistically it costs me just as much to keep as any other run of the mill 1.2/1.4 and 1.6 – Whatever but the only difference is I have more power at my disposal so in the real world I’m getting best of both worlds so it suits me just fine to have a TDI. Unfortunately Diesel and LPG seem to be the only fuels you can have performance with that cost you the same as a normal engine.

Most Ford fans are biased badge snobs who call everything else rubbish if it doesn’t wear a blue oval on it and it hasn’t been built in either Dagenham or Ellesport mere and none of them have wanted to try anything outside of those two makes of cars. Most of them are too scared to get out of the drivers seat of their Ford/Vauxhall and drive something else which comes from a foreign country because they are scared they might prefer a foreign car. Typical attitude of the western civilization and the British… They won’t buy it unless it flies a Union jack. The actual car can be s**tter than a pig rolling around in s**t but as long as its British thats all that matters. It makes me laugh because in actual fact Ford is an American company and Vauxhall is owned by General Motors – another american corperation so they aren’t buying British at all. Despite the fact he admits to being a Ford fan at least Guvtav agrees with me on the Mercs, clearly he’s driven one.

Thing is Richmond the E350CGI has an excuse over a Focus ST because it isn’t even anywhere near the fastest E class. In fact, it isn’t classed as a performance Mercedes its just another type of everyday four door blue efficiency automatic (0-60 in 6.6 seconds and a 150-something mile an hour top speed) but it just so happens to perform the same as a Focus ST which puts the Focus ST’s so called “Brilliant performance” in the bin really. Ford fans like Y333EEE make such a song and dance about the ST’s ‘oh so amazing’ 2.5 litre Volvo T5 turbo charged engine which puts out 222Bhp and a 0-60 of 6.6 “amazing seconds” when an everyday mundane boring non performance Mercedes saloon with no rear spoilers, bodykits or frills is doing that on a standard blue efficiency 350CGI engine and you wouldn’t look twice at an E350. After driving a cabriolet Jaguar V8 supercharger with enterprise rent a car, a car which does 0-60 in 6.6 or 5.9 seconds feels quite slow. I agree they have no idea what a performance car is or feels like, I do and it wasn’t even a top spec Jag either.

Honestly drive a Jaguar XK… You’ll be in love with it.
