Van Sainsbury's van, Orange driven by Male

Seen at 12:15 pm on 27-Jan-select on Albion Road Hackney, London Greater London

ALBION ROAD, NR NEWINGTON GREEN, HACKNEY 12.15, Friday 27 Jan 2012 A(nother) van driver dangerously, agressively overtaking a cyclist (me) and not leaving enough room while doing so - even though there was plenty on the road. This one was driven by a Sainsbury's delivery man. It is incredibly dangerous when vans or any large vehicle cuts up cyclists, who are far more vulnerable than other road users. Please please please exercise some patience.

I’m not surprised why Sainsbury’s online drivers drive like this. Believe it or not I did the same job as the guy driving PF11 EUW and I can tell you exactly what the job entales. Sainsbury’s drivers i.e me are under so much tight pressure. 1. They have to sign out a van pack and check that they have a mobile phone, 10 late vouchers, fuel card, torch and accident forms 2. fill out a van checklist where they have to check the coolant, oil, tax disc, tyre tread depth, brake fluid, screenwash, damage and more. Then the checklist has to be signed off by an authorized member of staff 3. They have to check their delivery time slot and wheel out their totes on a trolley 4. They have to get another checklist which is a loading checklist where they have to check the number of Ambients, Chilled and frozen they are loading on. Then that also has to be signed by an Authorized member of staff. 5. After they have done that they need the customer paperwork and receipts. 6. They have to arrange the loads from 2-12 starting from front to back then strap it all down in the van and the load must be evenly distributed 50/50 over the axel. 7. They have to programme in the addresses into the sat-nav and sign in their store number and employee pin on the ISO track locators. I feel sorry for the poor sods still working for Sainsbury’s I think cutting up a cyclist and getting a complaint is the least of their worries… Trust me I know. I was driving the Sprinters!
