Unknown vehicle , Silver driven by Male

Seen at 08:30am on 13-Apr-2011 on A130 Near Wickford Essex

This morning I pulled onto the A130 and carefully pulled into the fast lane infront of a silver, high top van at 70mph giving myself more than a 2 cars length of space behind me and 1 car length infront of me. The silver van then proceeded to speed up, undertake me and try to side swipe me into the central reservation. This absolute moron is the reason why there are so many accidents on the road, I managed to overtake him at a later time, after following him for quite some distance to see if I could have a word with him, I caught a glipse of him whilst I was overtaking, he was male, in mid-late thirties, and had a company shirt on that I couldn't read.

@Sw7fty – did the police laugh at you for being a middle lane moron?

Undertaking isn’t illegal – that would mean being in the correct lane is illegal. Which clearly it isn’t.

PS – not a moron – my BSc and MSc has helped me realise that

You and people like you are the reason that the roads are congested constantly.

Give me a shout if you’d like some private tuition – i’m 500 a day

Smarty – America has some of the worse road manners I have ever experienced. It may be legal to undertake but they have some of the most dangerous motorways in the world.

Here undertaking is not expected and is dangerous as a result.

    Oi Arnul…

    You described Pistonheads incorrectly.

Maybe read a websites content and not just look at the pictures.

    Rant over.

@ Head – Hey Arnul is one of the good guys leave him out of it he’s only trying to help this confusing situation.

I believe Sw7fty was overtaking MLM’s at the time of the van incident so he had nowhere else to go. I’m sure he would have returned to the left after his manouver

So you’re one of those morons who come down the slip road and go straight to the outside lane. You deserve everything you got.

What’s amusing me is that Sw7fty seems to think that pulling in to traffic at 70mph only leaving one car length in front and two behind is safe. Perhaps the van driver was leaving a safe gap until some moron pulled in between and he considered that you cut him up? Fair enough it may not warrant the retaliation but it was your poor driving that instigated the matter.

In fairness you left only 2 car lengths between you and the driver behind as you pulled in.

The highway code states the gap between 2 cars should be 2 seconds at road speed. At 70mph as you stated this would be 100ft approx. Therefore you pulled into his braking distance in a dangerous way. YOU are in the wrong here. Granted he reacted badly but you shouldn’t have done it in the first place!!

Well if I had been that van driver I would also have lost my cool but not undertaken you. you pulled into a gap with one car space ahead and 2 behind at 70mph???? So the gap between the car and van was 4 cars length which at 70 is about 2 seconds. The van driver was maintaining a safe distance to the car ahead and you came along and suddenly closed the gap to him to less than one second
Have you ever heared of the 2 second gap???
Please read a little more on braking distances. One car length behind is called tailgating.
You were in the wrong FACT and he was for reacting that way FACT.

Might i offer a word of caution, pulling up to have a word with an offending driver is madness, for one you dont know the other drivers state of mind, does he have concealed weapons, is he a total hardcase, in which case you stand a good chance of getting injured or killed. You could even as an act of self-defence beat the crap out of him, but self-defence these days is not admissable in a court of law and how many witnesses will you find, i can assure you nobody want the hassle of going to court. Think about it, if someone drives like a loony, make a note of the reg and report it, if someone wants to have a go, remain in your car and lock it, when the offender is alongside your car move away steadily until you are clear and if he follows, drive to the nearest Police station or populated area and bash your horn attracting attention.
