Volkswagen Golf, Silver driven by Male

Seen at 05:45pm on 17-Dec-2010 on Near Crewkerne Somerset

I was in a long line of traffic going at 20mph due to the dangerous ice and snow on this road. This 'man' approached a lot faster and was tailgating me for some time whilst I had my 3 children (including my newborn baby) in the car. I put my hazard lights on to show him that we were going slow because it was hazardous and he just flashed as if to want me to move out of the way. He then eventually overtook me at approx.40mph. Following this, he overtook and then cut up the car in front of me in the middle of an S-Bend and then overtook a large tanker in an extremely dangerous place. This arsehole should not have a driving licence, if he wants to wreck his own life then so be it, but he will not involve myself and my children in this.

If you don’t like driving in bad conditions stay off the road instead of pussying about at 20mph holding the rest us up. If you were really worried about your children and new born you should have kept them at home rather than going out and impedeing those that realy need to be out.

    To “jag” above…

The words “line of traffic” imply that Harz was keeping the same speed as the rest of the vehicles on that road. If you feel that everyone else is holding you up, ask if you should be driving at all.

To DissapointedGuy……this is what causes so many problems. One person going ridiculously slow and everyone else playing follow the leader and not overtaking. If someone obviously wants to pass let them, keep left as far as possible and leave room in front of you for them to get back in, rather than playing God and obstructing them because you havn’t got the gumption to overtake yourself.

Suddenly changed from your ‘stay off the road’ to ‘use your head and leave room’ which is what good and considerate drivers do anyway. The reason you are supposed to leave a gap is for the extra time it takes to stop, not for someone to cut into. Having said that I personally would rather someone overtook as then I don’t need to worry about their lack of respect/experience/control. I do get annoyed when people drive too slow for the road conditions but I either overtake safely if possible or remind myself that it wont take that much longer than at the speed limit and that the vehicle, weather, driver experience/confidence are all different and that has an effect on each individual’s driving. If you force a driver to do something they are not comfortable with they will make silly mistakes, I’d much rather travel at 20 and get somewhere later than to travel at 30 and see/have lots of near misses or even actual accidents. Overtaking can cause more danger than travelling at the lower speed, especially in snowy/icy conditions where crossing the centre line can be risky… which brings me onto the fact that we will never know the exact conditions this happened in.

Having seen even the more experienced drivers crash over the past few days, being overconfident and acting like you own the road, this person has every right to be annoyed.

Whether your driving at 20 or 40, if the driver is alert and is taking care, they are less likely to crash then some idiot tailgating and putting others lives at risk by trying to gain an extra few seconds.

Getting home a little later or never coming home to see your loved ones?

To Sicko: if you try to use the accelerator, I assure you that tailgating car would dissapear!

Jag, I totally agree wth you. If somebody is afraid to speed up, he should stay home.

The only cure for tailgating is slowing down till either they overtake you or they drop back far enough again. speeding up doesn’t cure a thing because that driver is still holding a grudge. Speeding up only causes it to be a much worse accident when they do hit you. Plus, if they overtake you, you can tailgate them and give them a friendly little nudge.

Marcodetroll :- the best way to get rid of a tailgater is to pull over (when safe to do so) and let them past.

to Marcodetroll: learn some physics! When you speed up and he hits you it will cause LESS damage than it would if you slown down!. The damage is caused by the DIFFERENCE in speed. So, if he drives as normal humand being 60mph on countryside road and you are crawling 30mph than yes, it WILL cause damage.

Jag and Marc – I know few russian lads they want very much for tailgaters like you. Here how they make you cry: 1) They slow down make you get shirty, easy. 2) Approaching junction or round about, they hit brakes you no stop because you got no time, easy. 3) They sue for hurt neck injuries. (PS: They travel 4-up so forget using your kung-fu s**t or other special powers) 4) They take you to cleaners get all your money. 5) Your insurance goes up very much now. 6) Finally, your neck gets red – more than already is and now you cry! Wah haa! Road already has plenty idiots, why you compete for stupist? Love you crazy brits.

Jag is a bit of a dumpling actually. He is one of these morons you see standing by their smashed up car at the roadside scrathing their empty head.

You are in so much of a rush that you cannot even read a post properly – what chance do other drivers have when you are rushing on the road when you are clearly very unobservant.

If you feel everyone is holding you up on the road and you can’t cope with it here are some steps:

    1. Go and take some flying lessons to get a flying liecence
    2. buy yourself a Helicopter.

Alternatively you can also buy a boat if you wish.

If you can’t afford to do any of those things to avoid slow drivers and traffic queues then sit back, relax, shut up and calm your road manners down. Our roads are all bolted to the floor and they all go on a fixed route of twists, turns and traffic lights and there isn’t a sodding thing you can do about it. If you want to get there much faster then take to the air!
